3D Printing allows us to create almost anything we can imagine. And for us reptile keepers this is a miracle technology. Once we learn the basics of 3D printing we can literally create our own specialty reptile products that serve our reptile’s specific needs. The good news is that it is simple to get started and 3D printers are now economically priced.

This introductory course is designed for reptile keepers to get started with 3D printing. It will be presented live over four hour long classes. The class syllabus is as follows

Class 1: 3D Printing Basics

We start off by learning what 3D printing is and what can be done with it. I review materials you can print with and get you thinking about what you can do by showing you examples of 3D printed items for chameleon care. By the end of this class you will have an understanding of how 3D printers work and what you can do with the technology. Homework will be to come up with designs you are interested in printing.

Class 2: How to Select a 3D Printer

The second most daunting task in getting started with 3D printing is picking out a printer. We live in an amazing time where we have many options! In this session I will go over the important specs of a printer so you can make a comparison of printers available and know what you need in a printer to accomplish your goals. I will be working with a specific economical printer for this class. Hold off on purchasing a printer until you take this class and you will know you are getting what you need. Homework will be to order a 3D printer, filament, and basic tools.

Class 3: Using 3D Printer Design Software

The most daunting task in 3D printing is getting used to the design software and creating objects in 3D space! But with a little guidance I can get you over this hump and there will be no stopping you then! Together we will design a simple project in real time so you can see how it is done! Homework will be to design your own product and print it!

Class 4: Earning Money with 3D Printing.

3D printing is perfect for the keeper and breeder who wants to make things for your personal set-up. But if you have invented something that is useful to you it is probably useful to others who keep the same species as you do. It is not that hard to set up a digital shop and sell your prints. In this session I talk about how to price your products, setting up a shop, keeping up with orders, and the ethics of 3D printing. There will be no homework this time – just a discussion afterwards of what you will do with your new ability to 3D print!

Are you ready to get 3D printing? Signing up for the class is the only thing you need to do right now! During the class I will discuss the equipment necessary and you will learn exactly what 3D printer to get, the filament you need, the equipment necessary for 3D printing, and the software you will use. I will go over actual products you can buy and provide you with links to purchase in the event you want to use the exact equipment I will be demonstrating with. The important thing is that you will make highly educated decisions! I will be gearing this specifically towards the needs of reptile keepers.

So, simply sign up for the class and you will be handheld through the set-up. By the end of the course you will be printing your own 3D designs!
